About the Trail

The charming market town of Thirsk is set in a beautiful and historic part of North Yorkshire. The area is rich in cabinet making skills and has a wealth of furniture making companies with workshops and showrooms for all to see and enjoy.

These companies use a variety hardwoods to make an enormous range of furniture, made to the specific requirements of their customers. People come from all over Britain to have their furniture designed and made by their favourite craftsmen in the wood and style that they have chosen.

The Thirsk Furniture Trail includes ten furniture makers, all committed to producing furniture of exceptional quality. This website offers an introduction to their work and a guide to their workshops where a warm welcome is extended to all visitors. Combined with the wonderful local scenery and other attractions in the area, the Trail is a unique way to enjoy this part of North Yorkshire.

Imaginatively designed, high quality, freestanding and fitted furniture. All work is handmade and primarily from temperate hardwoods.

Starting from the tree butt to the finished article, all work is undertaken entirely by Graham, and each individual piece carries a trademark hand carved swan.

The Knight family and their team of skilled craftsmen at Old Mill Furniture make traditional, timeless and modern furniture in a variety of solid hardwoods.



Wilf Hutchinson established Squirrel Woodcarvers in 1957. He and his son Trevor produce handmade furniture in seasoned English oak, each carrying their carved squirrel symbol.

Treske's showrooms house an extensive collection of beautiful bespoke furniture of exceptional quality, displaying a wide range of freestanding and fitted hardwood furniture.

Local Thirby family run business with almost all work done by hand, including use of an adze on top surfaces. Every finished piece bears their trademark of a hand carved wren.
